Chapter 229: Part 2

Liu, who had risen from the chair, looked back. Beyond the wide picture window, the varied blues of  ‘Colorful Ghost’, which now occupied the spot where ‘Isolation’ had once hung, caught his eye.

Just as he had with ‘Isolation’, Liu still never failed to ask the question to guests who visited his home.

“—By any chance, what do you see in this painting?”

But he no longer waited for someone to give the right answer. It was partly because he had already met that person, but also because he could now accept that there was no right or wrong answer. It was a cliché, but it was the truth.

Even when standing before the same painting, everyone’s impression was different, as they each projected their own experiences, emotions, and desires onto it. Now, he enjoyed hearing those differences, and enjoyed looking at the various colors.

As he gazed at the painting in the living room, habitually stroking the ring on his left hand with his thumb, Liu suddenly felt that he had already received everything from Yeehyeon.

Yeehyeon had once said.

“I want to change. I want to be completely changed.”

And Liu himself had said to him.

“Me too. I want to be completely changed, too. Into a completely different being.”

It was a long-held wish, and at the same time, a fate he had resigned himself to, accepting that it could never be fulfilled.

That day, when he hadn’t refused Yeehyeon who came to his bedroom, Liu might have been unconsciously, desperately wishing for him to be some kind of being who could shatter everything and render it meaningless.

“Will you change me, Seo Yeehyeon?”

And in the end, Yeehyeon did change him.

His body felt as light as a morning after a long, deep sleep. It felt as if tens of thousands of sparkling, fine, beautiful particles were embracing him. It was the scent of diamond dust, of Yeehyeon.
